re: DIANA VREELAND
I tend to lose interest in things pretty quickly but Diana Vreeland and her documentary, The Eye Has to Travel, is one of the things that has held my attention and continues to inspire me. She had so much "pizaz" (as she would call it). On top of that, everything she did, she did with confidence and authenticity.
During her time as an editor, if a model came in and had something that society didn't deem "beautiful" she would capitalize on it; she made it art. For example, if a model had a long neck, she wanted to make it look longer and more exaggerated in the photos. She turned flaws into assets.
A few of my favorite quotes from DV below:
"The only real elegance is in the mind; if you've got that, the rest really comes from it."
“It’s not about the dress you wear, but it’s about the life you lead in the dress.”
“There's only one very good life and that's the life you know you want and you make it yourself.”
"You gotta have style. It helps you get down the stairs. It helps you get up in the morning. It's a way of life. Without it, you're nobody. I'm not talking about lots of clothes."
“You don't have to be born beautiful to be wildly attractive.”
